Background & Introduction (Theoretical Orientation)

Dr. Arthur Li is an experienced psychologist with professional training in both counselling psychology and clinical psychology. With over 10 years of clinical experiences, Dr. Li has served clients from all age ranges across different settings.

Clinically, Dr. Li is specialized in the Existential-Phenomenological approach. He is a trained Logotherapist and Existential Analyst, and has received training in Existential-humanistic psychotherapy, and Daseinsanalysis. Instead of understanding ‘therapy’ as ‘treatment’, Dr. Li emphasizes on the ‘healing encounter’ with clients, where suffering and symptoms are perceived as part and manifestations of life, and through a close and intimate encountering with one’s existence, freedom and a meaningful living could be re-discovered through realizing one’s possibilities.

Dr. Li also incorporates other psychotherapeutic approaches such as Psychodynamic, Cognitive-behavioral, and EMDR. He also has great interests in philosophy, and is passionate in integrating philosophical wisdom (especially Chinese and Japanese one) into his clinical practice.

Personal introduction

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Li is also a clinical supervisor for the Master’s program in Counselling Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, and the Master’s program in Counselling at the University of Hong Kong.
