Theoretical Orientation
“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
from The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Dr Jessica Tang is a Hong Kong and UK trained clinical psychologist. As her journey of being a therapist goes, Dr Tang’s approach has become more integrative; it is informed by Eastern (Buddhist Counselling) and Western (Existential-Humanistic, Psychodynamic as well as Cognitive-Behavioural (third-wave)) theories. She believes no two people are the same and so as their inner world and external environment so she strives to individualize her way of working with each person. Life is full of change, uncertainty, and suffering, and no one is an exception to this truth. Dr Tang is willing to walk this journey, as both a therapist and a fellow traveller, with those who seek help from her. Through a therapeutic relationship that is filled with safety, trust, acceptance, love and compassion, she hopes it serves as a backbone to help one make some life-transforming changes by feeling more at peace with themselves and the world, finding meaning from their pain and suffering, realizing their potentials, and living a more authentic and wholesome life. Dr Tang believes it is beyond words to explain what being in therapy with her is really like as one can only know by experiencing it.
Dr Tang treats adolescents and adults who suffer from mild to severe psychological distress, due to conditions such as stress and maladjustment, life transitions difficulties, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidal ideation, trauma-related difficulties (especially, relational trauma), personality difficulties, identity-related issues, and searching for life meaning/purpose.
Personal introduction
Apart from being part of the clinical team at Little Emptiness, I run my own private clinic and works part-time at Christian Family Service Centre (ICCMW). In addition to clinical work, I am currently serving as an Assistant Lecturer in the Centre of Buddhist Studies, the University of Hong Kong.
In my leisure time, I like to paint, read, watch movies, collect and work with crystals, and practice yoga. I also enjoy looking at flowers and sky/clouds, listening to the sound of water, being by the sea and travelling. I love bunny very much and always wonder if one of my past lives is a bunny...
